new to toy trains. how do you connect the wires that came with the turnouts to work

If you are talking about Bachmann remote turnouts, you use one red wire to connect your power source to one of the one of the electrical switches. You can use any AC or DC 12-14 volt power supply such as the auxiliary terminals on a power pack or an extra wall wart from a radio, cell phone or whatever. Then plug each succeeding switch to the one before so you only need one red wire. Then use the three-conductor green wire from the back of the electrical switch to the turnout. You can reverse the way the switch controls the turnout by turning one end of the green wire over and plugging it back in.

Good luck with your trains.

Well we just don't know. Doneldon's post is the way to connect them.

First you should check to see if you have the wire connectors plugged all the way in. They can be a little difficult to push into the switch.

Second make sure your power supply is on and working. Test with a meter.

If all else fails recheck everything again.
