GNR Kitbash?

What do you think would need to be done to kitbash a Bachmann PPR K-4 pacific into a GNR H-5 pacific?

Do some Google searches for both locos. You will get a lot of photos of both. That way you have material to refer to. That way, your question can be for more specific items. No idea on what you have for reference at this time.

What do you think would need to be done to kitbash a Bachmann PPR K-4 pacific into a GNR H-5 pacific?

The GN H4 is a smaller engine than the PRR K-4, the cab of the K-4 is just about even with the boiler top of the K-4, while the GN H-4 cab sits quite high over the top of the GN boiler.


The GN engine has a wheel base just less than 32' where the PRR K-4 has a 36' wheel base. The GN drivers are 73" while the K-4 had 80" drivers

Just because both had the BelPaire firebox the PRR was a noticeably larger engine

A better candidate would be a Harriman pacific and you would have to add the belpaire firebox. Adding the firebox would not be that hard, add putty and sand until you have the right contours.

The brass models of these engines are selling pretty cheap, you could save yourself the trouble of hacking a locomotive up to make another

But if someone wants an engine bad enough to build it, think of the money going into the project, and think of the labor involved of actually having to cut things up and reassemble the engine into your plans.  Now its not going to look perfect ny any means using a K4 and over time you might get tired of looking at the engine if it isn't exactly the look you wanted.

It's why I buy brass for my DRGW engines because they're hard to make by kitbashing, and the economy drives the prices down on the brass models. And after making the decisions and saving my money to buy some of them, I'm pretty darn happy with my collection.

I have things now that years prior I used to drool and daydream about having, but if you stick to your guns you won't regret it
