I have a 2-8-0 with a factory installed decoder. My question is are these hard wired or do they have the 8 pin plug.

The reason I ask, I am thinking about adding a new decoder with sound.

Thanks
Gary

Niether.

The decoder is built into a lightboard in the tender. There is a provision to break off the stock decoder and hardwire your own decoder in place. Bachmann has never used the NMRA 8 pin plug in N scale. There just isn't room for it in most applications.

This may help:

Thank you for the reply. Do you know if this is a difficult install?

The instructions are included with the loco. It is simply a matter of breaking off the existing decoder and then soldering a new decoder to the marked pins on the remaining half of the board.
