Help me out here; I see that people are engaged in doing the above all the time, but don't understand what function it serves?  If you have taken the time to log in and are reading Topics, was is the purpose behind "Marking Them As Unread" ???

Thanks. :)

I use "Mark As Read" to clear the "New" tags when a forum gets full of new responses to a lot of topics I'm not following in. It makes it easier to spot "New" tags on things I am following on later visits. I didn't know there was a "Mark As Unread" function.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.

AGSB is doing it right now, "Marking topics read or unread".

Where exactly is this "Mark as Unread" button you speak of?

How are you able to know what I am am doing on the board?

Through magic :D

I don't know.  Is there a button?  You tell us, you were the one engaged in "Marking topics read or unread" when I noted so.
I've never done this, which is why I am asking the purpose of why people do it.

I mark the topics as Len noted in his post. Some I have no interest in, so don't want them to keep popping up as "new". When new topics actually get posted, I know they are new or updated older posts.

I still don't know what you mean by marking a post as "unread".

Thanks.  I don't know either; I just know that is what it includes in what it says when someone is actively marking Topics.

When I exit the board, I always click the "Mark as read" button.  That way, when I return, I can tell which discussion boards I'm interested in have new topics and which topics have new posts.
