I have a locomotive that has a running motor but won't run. I have disassembled the drive wheel assembly. The motor and gears run without the wheel assembly installed. The wheels assembly won't turn. As near as I can tell the drive linkage binds. I can't see any interference. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Steam loco wheels have to be 'quartered'. In simple terms, looking at the right side drivers, if all of the screw holes are at the "3 O'clock' position, the screw holes on the left side should all be straight up at "12 O'clock". If not, you'll get binding. The wheels are press fit on the axles, so i something is off, it's usually a simple matter to twist things back into alignment.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.
