What is the driver diameter of the Bachmann HO USRA light pacific?

Yard Master

Hi chasbush,

Are you interested in the diameter of the prototype or the HO model?

The prototype driver diameter for the USRA Light Pacific is 73 inches. On the model this scales to about 2 cm/.78 inches.

I am interested in the model driver diameter. I wish to see if this engine is a candidate for kitbashing into a lackawanna freight pacific, which had 69" driver diameter. On my scale rule 2cm is exactly 69" making this model a good candidate.

I use an online program to figure model dimensions.
https://scalecalculator.com/
That says: 69" is 2.01 cm
73" is 2.13 cm
78" is 2.28 cm
Feel like a Mogul.

I love low-drivered freight Pacifics. The New York Central had them, the Illinois Central had them.

The Gulf Coast Extension still has them. Being my layout, of course!

And there is an example operating this very day!

And that's not all! They have removed this one from static display and are restoring it to operation as well! The great  news is that this is the prototype that the Bachmann model is patterned after.

The tread edge to tread edge diameter on the USRA Light Pacifics built by ALCO and Baldwin is 73 inches. Whoever came up with the 79 inch diameter probably measured from the outside of the flanges, which is not the correct method.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.
