I have a brand new Bachmann N Scale Santa Fe SD40-2 #5043 locomotive I'm trying to run on a Bachmann EZ Track layout. I can hear the motor grinding and the lights are on, but it rarely moves. And when it does it only moves an inch or so whether that be forward or backwards. I'm not sure but I think the wheels aren't aligned on the track. Any ideas? Thanks in advance to everyone that replies. BTW: I am running (or pulling) it through a rerailer section of track.

Since the locomotive is brand new and therefore under warranty, try giving Bachmann support a call. Hope this helps.

I looked into that, but the problem is that Bachmann only seems to offer this warranty to the original owner. Although this locomotive is new, I bought it on eBay.

I contacted Bachmann to see if they will repair an out of warranty item, but they told me the locomotives were too old and parts may not be available.  :(

When I purchase a Bachmann locomotive on EBay, I look at 3 things. The box that it's in, the couplers and what the engine looks like underneath. I always put the details last. The box tells me if the engine has been manufactured recently; if it has DCC installed or not. Second, the couplers tell me also that the locomotive has been manufactured recently; does it have the Bachmann couplers or the old school couplers? The underside of the locomotive will tell you if it has a split shell or does it have a plastic piece applied with the words DCC? Does it have a plastic piece with slots for the built in speaker? These are the differences that make up a more modern Bachmann locomotive from one that was manufactured 30 years ago. I have been a big fan of Bachmann for many, many years and even the old engines run good and in some cases easy to repair.
