Sitting on top of the curcuit board is a small rectangular piece with eight small pieces of metal.  That is the shorting plug for the DCC NMRA eight pin plug.  Pull out the shorting plug and install the decoder, if it has an eight pin plug and play.  It is quite likely you will have to cut the capacitors on the curcuit board.  They are the small yellow plastic things, which look like a fat hot dog sticking up from the curcuit board.  Cut ofxf one leg and turn the yellow part to one side.  Or cut both legs and throw it away.
