Is there any shorting problem with putting Kadees on Proto 2000 GP7s with DCC?

Kadee recomends using a #5, so there shouldn't be any shorting problem. If you are concerned, though, you could always try using a #38 plastic coupler, which should make the issue moot (you may have to modify or remove the molded-in coupler pocket to fit the #38 in).

Gene,

the Proto2000 GP7 has a completely insulated plastic coupler pocket and #5 works perfectly.

Thanks both of you.  I thought that was the case, but I didn't want to destroy my museum quality decoders - I believe they may be the first decoders sold with NMRA plugs.  :o

I have two of the proto2000 gp7/9 and have kadee#5 on them. They run perfectly. If I had the money I would buy some of the new released ones with sound.
