It depends on the decoder.  If it will run on DC, use address 01.

Not unless it is a dual function decoder. Having the ability to run an analog engine on a DCC layout is becoming limited. I have a couple of DC engines that I will not likely be converting over to DCC and as long as I have my trustee EZ DCC I can mix and match DC and DCC.

well from what i know is that all the DCC engines i have ever seen they have all been able to run on DC....................just trying to help for once.............

All those decoder equipped locomotives that you have seen run on dc must have had analogue conversion turned on to do so.  If analogue conversion had been turned off in CV29, then they would have been DCC locomotives that were not able to run on dc.  Some people routinely turn off analogue conversion on all their locomotives to prevent accidental runaways when they first power up their systems. 

There were a number of decoders made that did not support analogue conversion.  Some by MRC spring immediately to mind.  No matter what you did, they could not operate on dc.
