Dynamis Wireless DCC System vs 10-button EZ Command DCC System

Another early decision I need to make as I begin model railroading:
  Is the Dynamis Wireless infrared DCC System  (item # 36505) a simple alternative to the 10-button EZ Command DCC System (44902)? 
  Or do I need to have some form of powerpack or DCC system in place that I add the Dynamis gizmo to?
  In other words, can I buy the 36505 instead of the 44902?  Or do I need to buy both?
  Anybody want to offer an opinion on whether or in what circumstances the Dynamis system is worth the extra money?  I don't have much of a layout now, but I have visions of grandeur to build something complex over the next few years.

Hi Cumberland,

The choice of controller depends on your needs, such as size of layout, number of operators and features that are important to you.

The EZ Command DCC controller is a standalone entry level unit.  I use it on my small layout, simple to use with a short learning curve.  It's an inexpensive way to get started in DCC operations.

Dynamis is a more advanced controller, capable of programming and fine tuning configuration variables to access special features built into decoders. Others will comment on this, and other more advanced controllers.

Remember, things change fast. In a year or two there may be more options depending when you build the layout. Check back here when you get ready to buy. I am sure some places will allow you to pay full price. There are various prices and a few dealers do not handle some of the Bachmann systems that I have noticed from different DCC online companies.
No doubt, there will be more opinions, although experiences are usually better.

I use the NCE Power Cab so cannot comment of your choices.

I only started trains again a few months ago by purchasing a Spectrum DC NY set. Within a month a bought EZ Command, within 3 months I bought Dynamis. I have 3 45 foot loops with 6 DCC turnouts, many lit cars and Tsunami sound. I ran out of power but the booster price is way out of line so I calculated my load and determined that the Dynamis 2.3 amps would fix my power problem and allow me to program CV's. The infra red wireless works in my application and I'm very happy with Dynamis. The base Dynamis cannot read CV's and the Pro box is, again, way out of line in price. If you don't mind not reading CV's then Dynamis is good. If you want to read the CV then you will need the Pro box as well and for that money you can get a really impressive cab from another manufacturer.

It all depends on what you want. I would have gone with the EZ command but since it only has ten locomotive addresses I decided to go with Digitrax.
