SPECTRUM N GE DASH 8-40CW 86058 won't run forward

Just hoping someone can lend some advice for a brand new Dash 8-40CW that won't run forward.  Runs fine and smooth in reverse, but doesn't budge in forward -- light won't even come on).  Tried everything I can think of.  My son is going NUTS (yeah, it's his new purchase)!
