The GP40,35,38 , 50   F models are good diesel runners on 18"radius track . most of all the 4 wheel truck models will do well . the 6 wheel truck models the ones with    -2 at the end of the model number do well on 22" radius but on 18" radius have a tendency to derail if the track is not laid well or a little rail height difference at the rail joiner's. don't get me wrong they will run on 18"r track but they like the bigger radius better . and watch your turnouts with short connectors and s-cerves .Bachmann makes really reliable diesels so have fun .

Actually quite well , I expanded to a 6x12 .added an upper loop and a mountain and logging yard . It's sad though , it sits there with no run time as well with my garden railroad as work and not enough time in the day just now . some day soon I hope to spend alot of time with my railroad again .

Go to Thortrains.com some people use this site some don't . it can give you an idea of track pieces needed and some different configurations using 18 and 22 in radius track . the above post are also good resources as well . I built my first layout from this site and went way over board from there . you'll find you'll want more and more bigger and better . I'm still not satisfied . I want to cut a hole in the wall of my home and take it to the street . good luck have a blast and happy railroading.

General Discussion / Re: Loco noise & loco derailing

does it whine or grind could be a decoder . on the derailing , have you checked the hose heights on the couplers . one could be lower than the other a coupler gage can help check this and coupler height . or you can check the wheel, flange and  rail with a nmra gage .

are you using ez track or  just sectional track . on the EZ track I had derailing problems at the frogs ,due to the #5 switches  turnouts whatever had a slight hump the road bed wasn't flat and some of the ties get lose on the track and the rail width gets narrow or a little wider from being taken apart to many times . and a little gap in the track at the rail joiner where the track mates to the other peice will cause derailing . take a set of trucks and push it over all your switches frogs with your finger and see if it is smooth

or if you have a 3 engine consist switch them up . if its an ABA switch the back loco to the front anf try it vise -or versa

Don't do like I did once and rebuild your layout and forget to remove the magnet from one of your pieces of EZ Track that you had on the previous layout .Then start running trains and start having uncoupling problems for no reason . Ask all sorts of questions . Remove couplers switch rolling stock around on your string . get so mad you want to pull everything up and put it away . Then you decide to look at your track and discover you left a uncoupling magnet on one of your pieces of track . Kinda made me feel pretty stupid , but I laugh about it now . Good luck and they do work well .

Just splice the females of 2 of the red extension cable Being you already have them , I did this with my upper dog bone . I thought the same thing when I bought them ,but had to resort to the slicing and everything power wise worked out well . I have a small dcc layout and have never noticed my locos bogging down from lack of power.

If you do a search on "auto reversing track " on the search icon , lot of good info . But no you can not use regular EZ Track , if you did you would have to run feeder wires from track to track . Bachmann sells the 9" straights and I believe 18"r reversing tracks

have you tried programming the loco on a separate track . such as the terminal railer with a 9" straight on each end by itself , separate from your main track layout . your dcc turnouts cannot be the same address as your locomotive . take your terminal railer with plug and put a straight on each end of it . and reprogram to default . and see if the loco moves . I had this problem once . when you get it addressed it will move back and forth . then increase throttle and see it it moves .

I was reading these post and I have rebuilt my 5x9ft HO layout a 100times .Cause I'm not satisfied ,I want bigger longer mainlines I want to be able to hold my hand up to my brau and go there coming back threw in a minute .But you know I just don't have the space . But what I do have is a thing called DCC .And good quality Bachmann products that allow me to be able to run a couple of strings of 4axle diesels and 40 to 50 ft rolling stock around a double mainline . and run my 70tonners in threw the switches pushing or pulling a load up or down an incline even .And for a good laugh and smile I get my little MDT Plymoth that was converted to DCC with a becon light on the cab and run him .

My large stuff , I wish so bad that I could have this nice elaborate outdoor layout . But the best part of that is when I set it all up outside because I do have to bring my track in . But when I call my dad and he rides down on his scooter and we sit and run trains and talk about life .how cool is that I'm glad I had the money to put sound in my F-3 and looking to do remote control and battery power . I don't have the proto typical railroad right now But when its running and my trains are moving its my railroad and I get the satisfaction of it . And somebody who doesn't have what we have sure looks in amazement .

And what about train shows I've seen some just set up on table's and the look on those kids eyes when those trains are running around the circles or ovals . some are modelers and some people just love trains.
