Darrell, I not sure it is the turnout. When I only run an older DC loco, with the Command Controller only controling the turnout, everything works fine. It is when I run one of the new DCC locos and then try to control the turnout that I have problems.
Works fine for several cycles of the turnout and then it quits. It doesn't make me any happier though, particular since I am using a layout taken off the box the set come in. Reprogramming the new locos didn't help, either.

Darrell,

While the DCC turnout works fine, the same seems not to be the case with the EZ Command Controller. It appears to be developing a problem. The controller operates the turnout fine for several cycles, then it just quits commanding the turnout. All train commands(speed, direction, lites, etc work fine.
I have already reprogramed the turnout, which works great with a DC loco. So, now I am going to try reprogamming the DCC locos. I guess what I am saying is,  I am grasping at straws. If either of any of you have any ideas?????

Tyler, while it is true that it is a starter set, I don't believe that means it is necessarily a starter set for a new HO hobbist. I take it to be  a starter set for someone just getting into DCC. And as a side point; it most certainly is not cheap. Even the lower priced(over $100 less cost) McKinley set comes with a remote turnout.

HO / Re: DCC turnout problem
January 24, 2009, 05:44:10 PM
I just tried a straight DC locmotive on the same layout, using a DC controller thru the DCC controller. The turnout works perfectly.

The direction of movement of the loco is the same as the direction arrow on the DC controller.

When I returned to using A a DCC loco, the DCC turnout worked fine for a few cycles and then quit responding,

The loco is programed on button #1 and as I said, the turnout is programmed on button #8,

BTW, the layout is the same as the one pictured on the Bachmann box(Your First Railroad Track Pack) except one the the turnouts used for

the passing siding (the left turnout) has been changed to the DCC turnout.

HO / DCC turnout problem
January 24, 2009, 04:38:23 PM
Since I am going to change over(slowly because of cost) to DCC, I have starting adding DCC turnouts(again, like the other equipment, one or two at a time(because of cost). I immediately encountered a problem.  I installed a brand new, out of the box DCC left turnout. I re-progammed the turnout to #8. The turnout command operates normally for several cycles, the turnout quits responding.  The standard remote turnout that I replaced with the DCC turnout worked fine--no problems.

Any one got any ideas?

Darrell,

I also recently purchased  the exact same set and had the same results that you described.  I removed the turnout from the box and turned it over. Imagine my surprise to find that what was provided in the "starter" DCC set was, indeed, a "manual turnout".   I did not expect to find the turnout that was provided in  a "starter DCC" set would be a totally manual turnout.
I was upset with my self for not checking more carefully before I made the purchase. I am very disappointed with Bachmann for not including a DCC turnout in what was marketed as a "DCC starter set".  In the future, I will be much more careful when purchasing Bachmann products.

The end result was, I tossed the manual switch in my junk drawer and purchased a DCC turnout, which by the way,  works very well.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Joe,

Thanks. I think that I will forgo the attempt at adding a parking siding on only one of the straight portions of the 26" oval.
I have a quick solution, I think. That would be to add a parking siding on both of the straight segments. The only  problem that I have come up with, SO FAR.   I am not sure if I have enough space to accomodate two sidings. I have only  60" of width and cannot work to the inside of the oval. Do you have any idea how much space would be required from the outside edges( That is from outside edge to outside edge all the way across the layout)  if I used a #5 Turnout and the half section of 22" curved for the turn back to parallel, for each siding?

Also, what problems do I have if I just put passing sidings on the ends of the oval?  Hopefully the standard turnout and 26" curve sections will work, without getting into two many complications.

Thanks

I guess that I didn't make my self really clear. My Apologies.

The purpose of the 26" oval is so that I can run my old DC equipment at the same time that I run my new DCC

equipment, without have to worry about damaging the old DC locomotives. I have about two dozen vintage DC locomotives and would

like to be able to operate them.

The outside 26" oval will be powered by a DC controller only. The inside layout will be all  DCC equipment.

Hence, no worries about getting things crossed up and inadvertantly mixing DC and DCC.

The problem that I have is that I am very new to the E-Z Track and don't know which  turnouts to use with the 26" oval.

HO / Adding a 26" radius oval to an existing 22" layout
January 16, 2009, 04:31:26 PM
I am just now setting up a 22" DCC layout with EZ Track.  I have been told that the older DC and the DCC do not work very well together and that it is best to have two seperate runs of track.

So, I would like to add a 26" oval around the outside of my 22" inch layout. My thoughts  are to start with a  26" inch oval with a passing siding on one end of the oval(still using the 26" radius curve) and one or two parking sidings along the straight portions of oval. As I am new to EZ Track could some one help. I assumer the curved passing siding would use standard left or right turnouts. But what would be the best turnout to use for the parking siding? ???

HO / Loco coupler for an older 2-10-4 Santa Fe #3781
January 16, 2009, 04:12:03 PM
I am new to the board and have a fewf older Bachmann locomotives, so I may have some interesting questions.

Right now, I need help getting the part number for a 2-10-4 Santa Fe locomotive. The number on the tender is 3781 and it has 4 wheels on

the a front truck and 10 wheels mounted on the body of the tender.

The coupler portion that is mounted on the locomotive crystalized and broke and I would very much like to replace the part.
