Title: Spectrum 4-4-0 Motor
Post by: efagyal on June 05, 2011, 01:43:58 PM
Just received my new motor for this engine and noticed the original motor had no pcb on the end like the new one has.  Can you tell me what the function of this pcb is?

Noise suppression. It reduces the effect of sparks and arcs on TVs and things of that nature. I don't know that it's really needed anymore with digital broadcast technology, but it doesn't hurt anything to leave it on, either. Having said that, it does play havoc with some R/C and DCC control systems, so if you're going to go that route to run your trains, just remove it.

Later,

Kevin:
Thanks a lot for your quick and informative reply. I will remove the pcb since I am using R/C.  I wish these manufacturers would include some basic information in with the after-market products they supply.
