I have a Bachmann S-2, PRR cab NBR 8432, and it runs good and pulls about 12 cars plus cabin car on the level until recently.  The locomotive will not move but the lights and sound continues.  The sound will speed up and down with throttle movement and the lights will turn on and off and reverse on command.  I use an NCE Power Cab system.  It is not consisted and CV-19 = 0.  I have reset the decoder (CV-30 =2} the loco still will not move using the default factory address of '3'.  I did notice that when changing CV's on the programing track, the loco would lurch forward which tells me the motor is connected to the decoder.  Sound and lights still work.

Does anyone have any additional ideas?

I have a Rivarossi 2-8-8-0 that runs great even on 18" curves.  Since it is a similar locomotive with two sets of drivers, they do swivel and should freely.  Check that there are no loose connections, since the drivers are electrical pickups, that may be shorting on the driver frame.  Do you still have the original motor in this engine?  If not, what did you change it to.  I would like to remotor mine so I can run it on DCC smoothly.

I retired in March of this year.  I am enjoying it and catching up on a lot of neglected work around the house.  Living in Phoenix, you don't get much done out side from June to October because of the heat.  However, I don't have to shovel anything in the winter.  Just ride my Harley.

I realy meant I am interested in getting the Power Cab and yes I well probably use some Soundtraxx decoders.  Do you need the smart booster for the Power Cab to boost the power up from 2 amps?

I do not have a DCC system now.  I was trying to just run the Class J on a 18" DC oval and was experiencing the difficulty.

I see by your Profile, you were born in 1941.  Isn't it fun getting old?  I refuse to grow up.

Thanks for you advice.  I hope it helps.  Iam currently building a new layout and moving to DCC.  I tried running the engine after lubing on a DC 18" oval and in reverse it ran smoothly, but going forward it was jerky.  The engine is a Class J 4-8-4 and I know it is designed to run on 22" radius min.  Could the jerky be caused by the DC?  It also did it on straight track portions of the oval.

It is a steam locomotive. I have lubricated the gears on it since the company didn't put much lub on the main gear.  I didn't know there was a difference in the break-in procedures for steam and diesel.

What is the proper procedure to beak-in a new engine.  I recently received a new Bachmann engine and want to break it in properly.
