Title: Road Names
Post by: AVM on March 30, 2007, 12:32:57 AM
I was watching a movie that had a steam engine from the 1940's.
The road name on the engine was "Pacific Northwest".  Is this a legitimate
road name or fictitious for the movie?  Where can I find out more about this road name, and possibly get hold of some decals for my untitled steam engine.

Hi AVM,

My 'uneducated guess' is that it is a ficticious name for the movie. You could enter "Pacific Northwest RR' in Google and do a search. Also try Wikipedia with that name and see what you get.

Private name decals are available from Champion (Champ)  Decals - or you can make up the words with Microscale letter sets.

In most cases, the movie folk create ficticious names to avoid potential copyright issues and defamation suits.  Exceptions would be movies ABOUT the railroads--"Union Pacific"; "Denver and Rio Grande" come to mind.  I suspect that Sierra RR No. 3 has had more road names painted on her tender than Carter had pills.  The little 4-6-0 is perhaps best remembered for her supporting role in the "Petticoat Junction" TV series.
