Title: roadbed or not roadbed??

roadbed or not roadbed??..that is the question!!I was wondering how necessary is the roadbed


what could be the problem if i dont use a cork or similar roadbed?
what are the benefits.
what about partially roadbed?

ooohh i should mention that i'm using atlas flex track

I would consider roadbed a necessity for your mainlines.  Any yards you could transition to no roadbed.

The main benefit other than looks, is the fact that it deadens noise when the train is running.

I use cork roadbed for my N scale layout, as it represents a mainline railroad. I don't use roadbed on my On30 layout, because it is supposed to represent a backwoods cheaply made railroad.

To answer your question, it depends on what kind of railroad you want to model. Hope this helps.
