General Discussion / Fun for the older guys maybe

I've found a place on the outskirts of Hannaville to pu the Great Western (?) 1950s motel.  I've also found a car and figures for Dolores Haze and Humbert Humbert.  I have a metal Cadallac kit for Claire Quilty's car that he can hide behind and spy on them.  Which famous novel?  :D  Do I dare add Mariyon (sp) Crane and Norman Bates?  I already have that wonderful Woodland Scenic station wagon loaded down with luggage on  the roof.

HO / Re: Steam diesel transition era...Coal and sand

Here's your solution.  Extend the track the GP is on.  It will function as the service track for the coaling station AND the diesel servicing track.  It was built for the coaling station and is now pressed into service to handle diesels.  Put in a water standpipe and put a water tower someplace close by where there is space.
for coal you can either use a small coaling tower or use the hopper and loader method.
Complete facility for both steam and diesel.
I'd remove the modern sand tower, myself.  Put it somewhere else for something else. <g>

General Discussion / cheap paint/glue holders
October 28, 2009, 04:01:05 PM
I've found great containers to use for things like wet water, dilluted or full strength glue, or paint.  Used, cleaned tomato sauce or mushroom cans hold four ounces of liquid and are great to use for construction.  I've also used the plastic cups that individual fruit comes in like might be packed for a lunch.   When ypu are finished using or one gets too grody for continued use, either throw it away or put it in recycling, depending on wnhat your recycling rules are.

I think there is one Hong Kong company operating under at least three names.
Who agrees?
None of them seem to offer a meal at any of the floating restaurants.

What answer was off topic?  I counted three answers which agreed with each other to a tolerable degree of accuracy.   But now the thread may get side tracked.

Actually, Hong Kong Island belonged to Britian.  The lease was for Kowloon and the New Territories.  China said it wasn't going to renew the lease.  Without Kowloon and the New Territories, Hong Kong Island was dead in the water, so Her Majesty gave up her rights to the Crown Colony.

Uh, to combine EZ-Track and regular track one needs some cork "ballast" and a saw or blade to cut off the plastic ballast clips from the EZ-Track where it meets the regular track.  Cork goes under the old track.

Assuming that the roof is not fastened down yet, two things you might want to add are curtains/shades and a view block - unless you are going to build interior walls.   They will add class to a good job!

Ash pits and inspection racks were found in yards that had maintenance faciility.  A trackside coaling tower/water tower/sand tower could be quite simple, but a coaling tower would need a service track to dump the coal into the tower.
Small facilities might well do with dumped coal and a coal mover such as a coal yard had to load dump trucks.
Generally speaking, every town had a water tower and some sort of coaling facility.  Sanding facilities would be more common in hilly country, less common on the flat.

I use an 0-5-0, but the bamboo skewer works real well.

Do NOT use sandpaper to clean track.  With the amount you have, a piece of cloth and rubbing alchohol will work just fine.  An artist eraser will also work.  But not sandpaper!  BTW, cleaning the wheels is also a good idea.  Q-tip and alchohol works just fine for that.  Clean the car wheels, too.
You might want to look at Trainworld or Standard Hobby Supply for new/more track.
