HO / Peco double slip switch question
August 13, 2007, 06:51:23 PM
Would anyone know how to take the spring out of a peco double slip switch? I want to put tortoise switch machines on it but the tension is too high. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

sounds like the home depot syndrome to me-----someone buys a new item, puts an old or broken one in its package and returns it for a refund. they get a new unit and you get #@$%!ed.

I'm fairly sure lifelike switches are not dcc friendly

Luc,  yep, that sounds like a short to me. In your first post did you mean the engine will cross the turnout one way but shorts out the other way?
If so maybe the turnout is not tight against the rail and the wheel flange could be hitting.

Thank you Sheldon and Nigel, sounds like experience talking to me, I'll remove the spring.

it seems that the cracks would open up after running a while, after being off for a while they would work again. Super close inspection revealed the problem.
Good luck, Tom

Gene, check your engines at the power supply track section. I had the same problem. turned out it was hairline cracks in the soldered track joints

Luc do any of your turnouts connect back to your main line and do all your turnouts short out?

Thanks Sheldon, after taking the spring out I noticed that the spring tension is adjustable and appears to be soft enough if adjusted to the lightest position, I'll have to hook one up to be sure. Unless someone has tried it and still had to remove the spring.

Luc, please please re-read and restate your question so no one has to guess what your asking, thanks,

HO / tortoise and peco question
July 14, 2007, 07:39:35 AM
It seems to be that the throw wire on tortoise switch machines is not stiff enough to throw a peco switch. Does any one know whether its best to drill out the tortoise and use a heavier gauge, stiffer wire or cannibalize the peco switch ?
Any ideas , thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
