Is the spectrum sd 40-2 n scale decoder ready ? What decoders will fit in it ?

According to Spookshow's website, those models were discontinued in 2004 (having been introduced in 1995). No they're not DCC ready by any stretch of the imagination. You'd have to hard-wire in a DCC decoder yourself. If you haven't done it before, it's quite easy and something I could do for you.

Thanks for the info, but I probably won't buy that one. I would prefer atlas or Kato with drop in decoders which I have done before.I also have bachmann engines with factory installed decoders of course.

I think you'd be much happier with a Kato SD40-2. Those old Bachmann models are pretty primitive by comparison.
