A murky term that's become more so in recent times.

Not really. The info given in the example was standard given to the dispatcher. The consist part referred specifically to the locomotives on the head end. If they were not running, they were "dead in consist" as opposed to "dead in train" which referred to a locomotive being moved in the train, but not on the head end The difference was crucial. DIC locomotives could conceivably be restarted if the need for more power arose, and controlled from the leader. DIT locomotives were pretty much useless, and were just along for the ride. Other than their extreme weight, DIT locomotives were just another car in the train. There were also union agreements where engineers were paid by the total weight of the locomotive. I'm pretty sure that included all locomotives MUed together, regardless of whether they were running or not, since they could be restarted if necessary. Perhaps the longer term power consist should be used, which was another term I heard often.

General Discussion / Re: Programming Long addresses...
Last post by jward - Today at 04:52:36 PM
Quote from: Ralph S on May 03, 2024, 08:32:18 PMThis brings up a question.  The Bachmann (Model 36508) EZ Command Dynamis Wireless DCC System can handle multiple addresses?  That is, be programmed with long addresses?  Also the Dynamis also can program/control the multiple CV's like other manufacturers.

Inquiring minds would like to know are there any Dynamis users out there?

I believe the answer is yes to both questions.

Quote from: DustyMarie53! on May 02, 2024, 02:27:31 PMApparently, the diesel co tanker and lighthouse are being discontinued, that's a shame about the lighthouse. Can't really say much positive about the tanker.

Correcting myself slightly. Tootally thomas the webstore made a facebook post regarding these two items saying were discontinued / having close out sales. It's weirdly worded but considering they were the ones who leaked the catalogue announcements for this Spring a few months back I think it's an important note to make.

If they're still in the catalog, which they are, then they're not discontinued.  If the catalog hadn't been posted yet then I think that would be a little more credible.  Considering the 2024 catalog was posted a few months ago, it will be a while until we really know anything for sure regarding what will be discontinued next year.

I wouldn't rule either of these two items being discontinued anytime soon, however.  It's just that in general, it's better to hear updates on products getting discontinued from Bachmann themselves or in the most recent catalog.

On30 / Re: 2024 On30 Annual
Last post by Fred Klein - Today at 12:11:21 PM
I remember those cold and rainy days when I lived up north. Lived in Winnipeg for about 7 months also (a loooong time ago - I was seven). Got my first train set at Eaton's department store.

Anyway, for those cold and rainy days the On30 Annual is just what the doctor ordered. Nothing like a comfortable chair/couch, a cup of hot coffee or chocolate and the Annual to take away those winter blahs.

Hope the rocket sled arrives on time for you also.

As far as the sound is concerned, I'm probably one of the few oddballs. I like to run trains and usually, I'm working on another model or project and I just find that the constant sound interrupts my concentration. I've been considering adding a very faint background soundtrack of ambient sounds to the layout. I subscribe to Trains.com and David Popp did that to the Sand Creek portion of his Olympia layout and it sounds (no pun intended) like I might be able to tolerate it while I'm working. There is a company called Fantasonics that sells a small player and has a selection of different soundtracks. Anyway, that's a little ways down the road for me.

Best of luck with your diorama.

E mails tell me the On30 manual should arrive today, Prof Fake's Rocket Sled on Thursday, had good intensions of cleaning up back yard
but Mother Nature is dumping Rain and blowing Wind = Cold so that is out!.

Jury is still out on the sound, will give it a try and see how it go's?.

Quote from: Awesometrain77 on May 06, 2024, 03:11:30 PMI can't belive we are getting to see Rebecca's prototype tommorow . I feel we are gonna see her out around the end of the year maybe around November . I feel we will see painted figure packs, narrow gauge wagons , and N scale express coaches soon on Thomas Tuesdays

They said they haven't even started on the express coaches yet a few streams ago so I don't think we'll see them done until late this year at best.
