Title: Rail & powere pack for ON30 modular
Post by: JohnDocker on May 08, 2008, 07:28:11 PM
What power pack is best for small locos on ON30, which track is best for a logging small module layout?

Thank you

Any Power pack that supports the operation of N & HO. DO NOT USE AN O SCALE TRANSFORMER! AS for the track, if you want simple and cost effective  any HO track will work but if you want the ties to be the proper "scale" {length and width} use Micro engineering 0n30  or Peco 0n30 track.  Track comes in several codes {rail height} which is 55, 70, 83 or 100 . Most everyone I know uses code 83.  I wouldn't go any smaller then that. Lower the # the lower the rail height.
Hope this helps. ;)

The code rail you use depends on what you are modeling. Code 100 works for the DRGW and East Broad Top. A friend who models the SPNG uses code 70 because the SPNG was originally done with light rail. Code 83 is probably the best compromise, expecially since there is flex track and switch kits to make the job of laying track relatively painless.
