HO / Locomotive Cyclopedia circa 1941

I own a copy of the locomotive cyclopedia from 1941. It used to belong to the B+O rail transit shop. This is a reference book 2 1/2 inches thick that they used in the repair shop. It has every steam, diesel and electric loco that was in use in 1941 on all U.S. railroads, scale diagrams, (blueprints) every detail you can imagine. How can I shre this with interested party's?

HO / Re: dcc motor insulating tip

I doubt the retainer cap can pop off if its never been removed which weakens the clips holding it on. If you do it like I suggest the shrink wrapped insulated tab is folded back over the cap further insuring that it can't pop off.

HO / dcc motor insulating tip
June 08, 2007, 05:09:37 PM
I've seen so many ways to wire a bachmann spring contact motor for dcc on the internet its amazing. some say clip the tab off and solder to the brush cap, some cut the tab and solder to that, They all say to wrap tape or something around the connections and to mark the motor so you know which way is up. If you look closely the motor is marked with an N on the plastic case end, thats where the gray wire goes but first clip the spring tab leaving about 3/16", tin it , then put 5/16" of 3/64" shrink tube on your wire lead, solder it to your motor tab, slide the shrink tube all the way over cut tab up to the round brush cap (its real tight but it will fit over) heat the shrink tubing tight and bend the tab back over the brush cap and you've got a permanent no nonsense safe and clean looking brush connection without a chance of a short.

So if I have a twin motor 44 tonner Brand new in the box, it's still not worth or possible to convert to dcc?
Just wondering,

Mr Bachmann,
Thank You so much, I called, they knew just what I needed, were very h

HO / Replacement motors?
June 03, 2007, 01:35:40 PM
Would anyone know where and if I could get a new motor for a bachmann F7? It looks just like the one in the "Plus" SD45, says kader 881 on it.

thanks,
Tom

HO / Re: LEDs

 Thanks go to you all,
Sometimes I speak before I think and don't say what I mean.
I got a ten pack of led's from tony's trains and they came with two resistor types, one for use with 4-9 volts and one for 10-16 volts. I wasn't sure which to use but I figured it out with your help, thanks again!
Tom

P.S.----I've been away from trains for almost 15 years, I'm retrofitting all my engines and rolling stock with decoders and kadee couplers, I installed  decoders and led's in nine engines yesterday (they all work well!) I'm quite pleased.

HO / LEDs

Help me please for some reason my common sense isn't working today. Heres my question, with a nce d13sr decoder and 3mm yeloglo led do I use the 4-9 volt resister or the 10-16 volt resistor that came with the leds?
I'm thinking 10-16 but I'm not sure. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
                            Thanks, Tom

Thank you so much for the info, its very useful AND looks just like what I'm seeing inside the sd45.
I have a bachmann ez command with dcc and I'm looking for a decoder thats low on price and high in quality so I can retro several locos, I dont necessarily need more than speed, direction, lighting just the basics. (I guess)
Thanks again, Tom D.
