General Discussion / Re: Speedi Driver Cleaner

Abrasive?
Depends on which metal is the hardest, the track or the brush.
In this case it is the track.
The track we usually use is made of Alpaca, also a copper alloy.
Brass is also a copper alloy but is softer than alpaca.
So you could say that the track is abrasive to the brass brush.

I had it the other way around with my old Athern cars.
They picked up so much gunk on the wheels that they spontaneously derailed .
But that was a long long time ago.

Were those metal or plastic wheels?

Another advantage to metal wheels is they'll have more weight holding them to the track around turns and the center of gravity will be lower.

As long as you don't know the type number your guess is as good as mine.
What i do know is that different colours have different voltages.

A standard LED is 1.5 V 20 mA.

Maybe the prototype had springs and they omitted them in the production model for costs reasons.....who knows.

have you checked the quartering of the wheels?
The rod connections should be 90 deg rotated to the opposite wheels.
If that is off you get binding.

When you are going to run on DC be aware that the locomotive will start only after the operating voltage of the electronics has been reached.
Normally 5 Volts.

A much more economical solution is to look for a good second hand DC 2-6-0 and do the amputation..... conversion yourself to a 0-6-0 as it is the same model with some minor modifications.

The size difference is likely due to the car lengths, a 24 ft car  (1 per box), versus the 18 foot cars  (2 per box).
Both are 0n30 models.

And don't forget the track gauge.
A car for three foot gauge can be bigger than a car for thirty Inch or two foot.
The models Bachmann makes are not always from 30 inch gauge designs but can be from other gauges.
For instance the 18 footers are actually 30 Inch gauge
The 2-8-0 also.
But the Forney's are two foot gauge.
The ten wheelers are three footers.

It is what it is, difference in size.
Have a look at the AHM tank cars, they are even bigger.

On30 / Re: Baldwin 4-6-0 decoder needed No sound

When you go up hill the decoder will give more power to the motor and when you go down hill the decoder will give less power to the motor.
So you will get an even speed performance.

Any brand DCC decoder with Back EMF will do.
The standard decoders that were installed from factory in the tenwheeler were without Back EMF.

I use a Sprog 3 with JMRI.

You can program CV's but also run a railroad up to 2.5 Amps.

What happens when you go back to the previous number?
