Title: decoder choice/option help needed for "plus"sd45 and older ft unit

does anyone know what decoder I could/should use with a bachmann plus sd45? How about older ft units? has anyone done these conversions? any input would be a great help thank you,

Amy wired decoder that will fit will be fine - there are hundreds of choices. 

Your question is just a broad as: "Which 4 dour sedan should I buy?" asked of people who now nothing about you.  There are acceptable choices for Kia to Bentley.

What do you want your decoder to do?  What is your budget?  Which DCC system do you have?  Sound?

Thank you so much for the info, its very useful AND looks just like what I'm seeing inside the sd45.
I have a bachmann ez command with dcc and I'm looking for a decoder thats low on price and high in quality so I can retro several locos, I dont necessarily need more than speed, direction, lighting just the basics. (I guess)
