Title: 4-4-0 loco
Post by: jlc41 on January 28, 2016, 11:31:02 AM
I bought this loco. Being new to this I noticed that this loco needed more power to get going. One of you folks said DCC is that way and to remove the decoder. Other than that this is a very nicely detailed loco and runs great, no wobble.

If DCC is installed then yes, it typically takes about 6 volts to get the loco moving.  You may also see a bit of "jiggle" as the decoder fires up, then it should run fine, though you have less throttle to work with.

Thanks for the comeback. I went ahead a removed the decoder. Installed the plugs supplied per their diagram. Put the loco on the track and it won't go. Put another loco on the track and no go. Took the loco I converted to DC off and bingo my other loco was able to go. So i Returned the decoder to the Loco and still no go. So is their something else I could check?

Sounds like you put the plugs in wrong, recheck the diagram and your plugs, is this the old time 440 or the baldwin/richmond 440?

I have checked. The plugs are pins 1,2,&8, and 4,5,6 per bachmann's diagram. Am thinking a short because as soon as i take the loco off the track my other loco runs. So i have a call in to Bachmann, I'll let you know what up.

Check the tender trucks to see if one got turned around, its not impossible for that to happen.

Balto, you hit on the head. That was exactly the problem. Thanks

No prob, ive got only 2 of the baldwins, but the richmonds i have a few of and those have chains attached to the trucks which makes it harder for that to happen,  the baldwins do not have the said chains but the hooks to mount em are there.
