Large / Re: Will there be a Sam's Club 09 train?
October 26, 2008, 12:51:15 PM

I posted this on another thread, so I apoplogize for repeating myself here, but I just have to express my disappointment upon hearing that there will be no Sams Club Holiday set this year.

As I see it, if the Bachmann Company only made one new train set per year, that train set should be a Christmas Train set.

I remember a Christmas long ago, when an eight year old boy came down the stairs to find a brand new Lionel set making laps around the Christmas tree.  It was a Christmas I'll always cherish.

Having children of my own, I recognize the look on their faces when they see that new train set circling the tree on Christmas morning.  It is a moment, and a memory, that will stay with them throught their lives.

I find it unconscionable, that there will be no new large scale Christmas train offered by Bachmann this year.

The North Pole & Southern sets have been beautiful trains throughout their existence.  My favorite, is the 2005 North Star Express.  The maroon and gold color scheme is just magnificent.

I hate to see the end of the Sams Club Holiday sets, but I suppose all good things must pass.  It was great while it lasted and I feel fortunate to have a set from each year, but it is a tradition that should be carried on, regardless of whether or not Sams Club wants to sell them.

I am saddened to hear the news.

I've been waiting all year to pick up a new holiday train set.  I have finally collected all of the Sams Club trains via ebay or help from fellow board posters.

Beautiful trains, all of them.  So sad if the North Pole & Southern has reached the end of its' line.

Best Wishes all.

Large / Double Track Curves
March 19, 2008, 11:09:33 AM
I am constructing a layout in our 30' x 40' attic.  I would like to run a double track main line around the perimeter of this space but not sure how to handle the curves.

Is it possible to bend / tweak the Bachmann curve track a little bit to increase the radius so the outside main line is concentric with the standard inside main line curve?

I don't want to use brass track from other manufacturers unless there is just no other way.

Surely, someone here has solved this problem before.  Thanks in advance.

Large / Re: Master List ?

As a follow up, the Wonderland Flyer set I purchased must be the 2007 edition as the loco has the simpler Stephenson valve gear, and as Mr. Miller pointed out, the box car has no build date.

Also, thanks to Bill's list, I was able to recognize a 2003 trolley car with the green roof/red body,  collecting dust on the clearance rack at the local hobby store.  That baby went home with me in exchange for 50 greenbacks.

WOW!   I had no idea there were that many Holiday / Christmas sets produced over the years.

Initially, I thought it would be fun to try to collect all the different holiday sets.  I wrongly assumed that just a few different sets were made.  Looks like it's time for plan B.

Thanks again Bill for providing / sharing that information.   That's a lot of information.  It appears one of the first things I need to do,  is to learn how to tell a Walshearts valve gear from a stephenson valve gear.

Thank you Bill.

I'd sure appreciate it, if it's information you don't mind sharing.

Thanks so much for all your help folks.  I've been trying to find information on the Holiday sets since I first became aware of them.  I was reluctant to ask on this board - in my limited experience with other message boards - well, I'll just say sometimes people can be a little less than friendly to new people and their simpleton questions.

It looks like the 2004 set might be the same as the current Wonderland Flyer set.

Thanks.

Thanks for the advice.

I am curious about the Christmas or Holiday sets that have been offered over the last few years.

I have noticed references in other threads to the annual Sams' Club sets,  indicating they have been offering limited edition Bachmann sets over the last few years.

This years' set is the Northern Lights and I believe the 2006 set was the 2 in 1 set with the NP&S passenger coachs and trolley car.

Could someone tell me what set was offered in 2005 or 2004?

Newbies like me are always such pests!  All questions and no answers!

Large / Master List ?
December 24, 2007, 10:34:18 AM
I'm new to the board and new to the large scale hobby, having just purchased my first Bachmann sets this holiday season.

I picked up a Northern Lights set at Sams' Club for what appeared to be a steal of a deal at only $117.  Then I found this board and started reading.  Since then I've added a Wonderland Flyer set (#90045, I think) so now I also have an Annie locomotive.

My question is this.  I often see reference to set ID numbers on Ebay and other online sellers, but for train sets that must be discontinued items.  Is there a master list posted or available somewhere, so a newbie like me can find info on the different sets offered over the years, or for example, if I purchase a caboose from set 90028, can I look up set 90028 and find out what other cars belong to that set?

Sorry to be so long winded.  Thanks in advance for any help.
