Title: Paint source
Post by: Hot Rodder on January 26, 2012, 08:16:02 PM
Hi everyone!

Could anyone offer advice on where to find matching blue paint for the B&O "Royal Blue Line" Passenger Locomotive?

Thanks!

Trying to paint over Bachmann's paint is the source of quite a bit of emotion in postings here http://www.mylargescale.com/ and http://largescalecentral.com/ and a lot of it isn't all zen and gleeful.

I do a lot of painting and find that most paints can be painted over with acrylic paint, which is waterbased.  There are several brands available made for model trains at local hobby shops.  Start with any color called B&O blue, dab some on the edge of a white piece of paper and after it dries hold it against your model. If ok then try it on an inconspicuous part of your model.  If the color is off you can try to lighten or darken it till it is what you want.

I now use only acrylic paints for the very reasons mentioned by on30gn15.  Using acrylic paint with a foam brush leaves a surface looking almost like it was airbrushed.

Gentlemen;

Thank you for your reply's, very useful information. I do have an air brush and never thought of that as an option, but It's in the picture now.

I just may take a part with the color to one of those computerized "scan it & match it" places, but was surprised at the mention of acrylic, but if it works fine all the better!

Now how about the original  lettered script? Can that be had in decal form, and who would be the best source?

Thanks Again!

Testors Pollyscale B&O Royal Blue should be very close and the older locos used a Railroad Roman type font. Check out this link.    http://borhs.org/logos/bo_font_logo.html
