can sound be added to the above loco will it work just using a Tech 2 Dualpower 2800 controller? where can I buy the equipment to do this?
WIthout major modification to the frame, there isn't room for a speaker in this loco. A regular DCC decoder can be installed by using a 'Z' scale decoder rated 1.25 amps, or higher, but it's not a simple job.
Instructions can be found at: http://www.wiringfordcc.com/bh_f40.htm (http://www.wiringfordcc.com/bh_f40.htm)
And a video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7aMWCKXEBs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7aMWCKXEBs)
But if you're just running with a Dual Power 2800 it's probably not worth the effort to convert.
If you really want an F40PH with sound you should check out the 'Walthers Mainline' F40PH with a SoundTrax decoder already installed. Currently on sale.

It is theoretically possible to add sound, but I would advise against it for a myriad of reasons. Adding regular DCC is reasonable but due to space constraints adding sound is out of the question.
Len's suggestion of buying a model that already has sound installed is probably your best bet if you really want sound.
Is this the old split frame or teh newer one? Running DCC sound on DC is limited. A sound decoder takes 6-7 Volts for the sound to come on and teh loco to move. You can't play the bvell or blow the horn. If it's a newer one click on link. Even though this is for teh old Tsunami, the newer board style Eco nami or Tsunami 2 will work . Joe
