Does Anyone Know If Bachmann Ever Made Auto Carriers For HO?
If So How Do I Buy One For A Reasonable Price

Bachmann made an open sided one many years ago. Accurail makes them now - both in kit form & ready to run. These are for larger radius curves - 22" - 24" or larger. Lifelike makes a "cheapie" 50' auto carrier that is still in production.
Walters currently has 3 level & two level enclosed 89 foot carriers around 26 and 30 dollars respectively and Atlas has Thrall articulated carriers for 60 dollars . I suspect these need substantially wide curves to run .

But yeah, Bachmann made them for some time, but stopped, and no longer make them, but Athearn, Atlas, and Walthers make those bad boys still. Man, my friend's UP one dosen't even turn for 18radii, just jumps.

But depends on what you like though...
The Walthers' ones are pretty nice. I was offered over 20 of them for 200$ a while ago but turned them down because of money constraints... The Accurail kits are pretty good, but the directions do not explain where the roadname placard goes, and the truck pins are a pain... I tried replacing them with 256 screws, but they seemed too short...

GG, what road names are they, I can look them up, and show you a picture. After all, Walthers is my second tab. ;)
Oh, and is in my favorites :) .
I've seen pix, CN, UP, SP, BN, and BNSF.
Oh okay. I'm interested in the Bi-Level and Tri-Level ATSF carriers now. But, a 12 year old can only have one expensive thing every birthday and/or <depending on cost> Christmas. Unless you religion is different, but I won't even go there. ;)
IMHO the Accurail ones look nicer, I like the look of open cars as opposed to enclosed ones...

I have to admit that I have not seen any unenclosed auto - carriers going to or coming from the auto plant in Belevidere (Chrysler ) . I suspect this is to combat vandalism and pilferage , the exterior of some of the carriers have been " tagged" so security is definitely not 100% .

Oh yeah, and it also prevents rain hitting converts. ;D :D
Plus they have been made more improvements in safety, and having a single use car for all is much better, that is also so why you see more Trailer-Train double-decked carriers then boxcars. But around here, you see the older things mixed. I just prefer the Bi-Tri-Leveled ones opened for the shear look of it, you can see the cars! But I'm going to have to have only a few of the opened ones, and mostly closed ones. For as said in my signature, I'm modeling the ATSF-BNSF crossover time in the 1990s, where the enclosed ones, newer, were really picking up.
Even TOFC is going enclosed... NS has ordered cars, pretty much identical to enclosed Auto-Racks, except single level, and made to transport trailers...
