HO / sound decoder
March 29, 2011, 12:40:30 PM
Need suggestions for a sound & motor decoder for a Model power Mantua Pacific with a 9 pin set up.  I have checked various mfgs. w/ no answers. Really new to sound, but have installed numerous motor decoders. Any help will be appreciate.   Thanks,   jerry

HO / Re: 2-8-0 Belt drive
March 09, 2011, 08:57:11 AM
I have seen no complaints on this or any other site about the belt drive, but have seen NUMEROUS ones about cracked gears on the gear driven engines. I have 2 belt driven engines & altho I don't  run them as much as you do, haven't had any problems.  jerry

HO / Climax replacement gears
February 01, 2011, 11:22:21 AM
I know Bachmann states that the have no replacement parts for the 2 truck Shay, but it seems to me that most parts in the new 3 truck Shay would be the same.
I don't think I have the split gear problem, unless it's completely split.  There is only movement in the rear truck. The gear could just be spinning on the axle.  I hear that they replace them with a Shay...Don't want the Shay & they seem to have the split gear problem also.

On30 / Re: Repaint the red trim.

If it's black plastic, just scrape the paint off. If not, try repainting 7 if you mess up.. order black ones. may be able to remove the "glass" to make the painting easier.   jerry

On30 / Re: NEW 4-6-0 won't stay coupled

swap it out for a Kadee.  Mfgs. think they are doing us a favor by including cheap knuckle  couplers. They end up in the same circular file as the horn hooks.

On30 / "O" scale structures

Any good reasonably priced "O" gauge laser cut structures? Looking for waterfront structures from the 20s-40s.   Thanks

I hope you mean 15" radius.

On30 / O scale figures & accesories
October 19, 2010, 01:17:37 PM
Anyone have a source for REASONABLY priced O scale figures, vehicles etc. The lifelike aren't very life like. The Woodland Scenics are a little better & the well detailed Prisers can cost $45 for 5 figures. Along the same line, the Athearn vehicles are almost $30 & they are undersize (50:1). Other less expensive ones are too big (43:1). Really a shame that mfgs. can't standardize.   Thanks for your input...Jerry

How about using the drawbar plug-in like the LifeLike Mantua classic logger?

General Discussion / Re: Mt Washington trip

Bring warm clothes if you plan on spending any time at the top.  we went a few years ago & when the brakeman left the train to add water he put on a jacket. The next stop was to switch to a siding to let a descending train pass & he put on a jacket & hat. The last stop before reaching the top required a heavy coat, hat & gloves.....He was there before.

We used to have a Big Greenberg show in South Jersey until the building was sold. Journeyed to Edison only one time & found that the prices were much higher because of the proximity to NY City.
