HO / Re: Momentum FA2

ebtbob,

128 SS is the first thing I tryed, helped but still a noticable jump with each speed change . I have a small layout so I run short trains at slow speeds. Mostly the lower half of the throttle range so 28 SS is better choice for me. Tweeking the momentum CV's smoothed every thing out and allows me to use the 28 SS setting .

Thanks jward, CV 3 and 4 it is! Value of 25 in CV3 and 20 in CV 4 and she's now as smooth as glass .

It's the factory decoder in the Bachmann FA2 , a budget soundtraxx I believe , and a Prodigy express.

Many decoders have 2 CV's that can be adjusted for "momentum". One adjusts how fast the loco reaches the selected speed. Rather that instantly jumping to the selected speed as mine does the loco will slowly (depending on the value programmed in ) build up momentum until it  reaches the selected speed. The opposite for braking is programmed into the second CV .

I was just wondering if this is available in these decoders as the basic info provided with the loco and the sheet available here do not seem to list CV's for momentum.

HO / Momentum FA2

Can the momentum be changed on the FA2 ? If so what CV ? Mine jumps with each speed step change , not smooth at all. Thanks .

I have been trying to set up 2 S-4 in consist with Prodigy express but I am having problems.
Using the Prodigy instructions I can get them to run properly with engine and turbo sounds .
Sounds awsome. Problem is I loose all other functions , lights , horn , bell and mute.

After I set up the consist do I need to program the missing functions into the consist address ?
I am hesitent to change CV's unless I am 100 percent sure I am doing the correct thing .
For now I have them reset  to factory defaults.

HO / Re: Reset S4 decoder to defaults.

Thanks Rich, I had seen the set CV 30 =2 process else where but was not sure it was the right thing to do . Seeing it here I gave it a try and it worked 99 percent. The only difference was the forward light would go dark when in reverse instead of dim. Used the PDF info to reset CV 33 and 34 and all is good now .Thanks again.

HO / Reset S4 decoder to defaults.

Anyone know if the sound decoder in the S4 can be reset to factory defaults ?
I changed the CV for bell rate and master volume but seemed to have
messed something up along way as now the lights do not work. :-\

It's a great engine, well not so much in the dark now , but I am new to DCC.

On30 / Decoder for 2-6-0
March 29, 2012, 06:09:04 PM
I have a DC 2-6-0 that I want to convert to DCC . Does Bachmann have a plug in decoder or will I need to hard wire. I have not disassembled the engine yet , want to know what I need before I do so .
