Title: Dash 8 fried chip?
Post by: jettrainfan on June 10, 2010, 06:43:54 PM
I had a full operation about 3 months ago and towards the end, the lights of the dash 8 went out like a candle (faded). I tried running it with no luck. Today i tried and with my bloody luck, I could get it to run on DC but I tried the DCC controller and only the back lights will go on and off. Did i fry the chip?

No, but I'd make sure a wire didn't get disconnected to the LED, it is also very possible that the LED just burnt out.

I forgot to put that it didn't run period on the DCC. It just had the back light on but I'll check it out later this week.

Still, check all the wires going to and from the decoder.

If your DCC system will let you do it, you could reset the decoder and see if that improves things.  If your DCC system will not reset the decoder, perhaps a friend or your local hobby shop has one that will.  Remember that resetting a decoder will reset its address to 3.
