General Discussion / sound decoder and speakers

I am grateful for this forum! I don't know where I would find answers at if not. I just bought my first train set with DCC locomotives. EMD GP40 and EMD FT-A locomotives. (by the way I have no idea what those numbers mean) I would love to know how and what sound systems are compatible with these. Also maybe what number or style of couplers they use. I know they are knuckle couplers but I've seen several makes like kadee but there are different types also

Thanks Len. I'll look for the extension if needed I'll splice it like you said. If at first you don't succeed throw it in with the spare parts. Have you tried splicing

I have a dcc track and I used the standard remote turn out. I took an old transformer from a no longer used electronics. ive heard them refered to on this forum as " wall warts" I cut the end off and used it to power the switch. this also works on dcc.
this website helped a lot https://ncedcc.zendesk.com/

General Discussion / extention wires

again my question is about turnouts. This time its about wiring. I am using the Bachmann ez-track remote turnouts. The green wire from the track to the switch is and only about 2 feet long, if my layout is on a 4x8 and I have my turnout at one end and my switch is at the other with my control center I need more wire. Since one end of the wire is connected to the track and the other end has a plug that connects to the switch, I'm wondering. do they make an extension or do I cut the wire and splice in the middle

I'm not one to give advice but I noticed that on my Bachmann DCC  . I'm only running two locos I noticed when I slow one to a stop and then switch to the second it keeps running. I have to take the speed control and increase the speed and then take it to stop. I'm not sure if this is the same problem your having.

I guess most people know this but I'm a newbie. I'm having trouble finding remote turnouts. Even when I look to order online it's hard to determine if it is DCC. It doesn't have the information listed
