General Discussion / Re: EZ Track Tack Down

I prefer to use vinyl caulk.
I use the cartridge type and apply to the track bottom edge, press in place, done.
Easily removed with a putty knife if a change is needed.

Look at the TCS WOW decoder.  Best reviews out there.
Why put all the effort into the installation and not use the best.

I do not have one of the new DCC 2-6-0 but I can tell you it will be more work that "taking the shell off and putting it on"

Now, most likely you can do it but it will take some work.  Bachmann locos have a lot of detail parts applied separately which would have to be removed and put back on.  The cab and the boiler are separate pieces which need to be removed and attached individually.

But I am now thinking that the DCC part may be in the new tender, not in the loco.  So that would require removing the tender shell & details, a much simpler project.
Of course you could just add a DCC decoder to the current tender and be finished.

Yes, you can buy 5' wide plywood.
Just remember, you have to have long arms to reach into the middle.

On30 / Re: On30 Shay gears

Jim,
They do have the gears.  Call Bridget in the repair dept. and ask her.  You may ahve to pay for them now as that free program is over a year old.  But maybe she'll send them.  A phone call works best.

Is bachmann dropping On30 from their product line?
It would be interesting to know the foundation behind the question.

Rumors, just rumors.  Seems someone starts this same rumor EVERY year.

What info do you need?

Bachmann will or has already released a new version of this loco with DCC available.

Possibly while working on that truck, one of the wires came off the motor terminal.  You'll have to take the shell off to find out but that makes the most sense to me.

They have green wires attached.

Those are manual turnouts, the DCC turnouts don't have the green wires.
??? ??? ???

flare if they are manual why would they need wires? think before you post. ???

Maybe to power the frog or rails?  think about it.

Mole,
You're going to be in for a lot for work.  The drives and motors on those old locos just aren't known for longevity.  If you have rubber drive shafts or rubber bands, these will need replacing.  Motors may work ok but not up to today's standards which is allright if you're satisfied with them.  And light oiling on moving wheels/parts will be needed.
The cars will run on the track, but I suspect your track is all brass and will either need replacement or constant cleaning.  The car wheels may also be plastic which are not desirable either.  They can be changed out to metal wheelsets.
Detail parts on those old locos and cars are minimal and somewhat crude.  Again, if your happy then that's all that matters.
Good luck.
