Hoping somebody can give me some guidance and advice. I have two N scale Bachmann U36B's that are from around 1974, made in aging Kong. I have taken them apart, cleaned them and lubricated, but still all they do is smoke and barely move. My question is if I want to keep the shell and use it on a different U36B, is there a newer model that Bachmann improved upon their gearing? Will the shell fit on, say an Athern?
Hi Bryan,
Bachmann did update the U36B chassis/mechanism, most recently in the 1990s, and it was last in our catalog in 2011. As far as I know, you should be able to put the older shells on the newer chassis without a problem.
Look for one of these item numbers and it should have the most recent chassis:
64052 SANTA FE
64053 BURLINGTON NORTHERN
64068 CSX
64076 DELAWARE & HUDSON
Good luck!
