Joe Daddy ,
Like you I have been using Bounty paper towels but the coffee filter paper works better for me .I have a small layout due to space .This I guess creates a faster build up of dirt ,especially trolley cars and definitely the DCC trolly's .They are so close to the rails the stiffer coffee filter paper works better .I got a pack of #2 filters at Walmart for $1.64 , cut them from left to right in half only keeping the top half .The bottom part has all the seam marks. I trimmed off the ends  which gave a piece about 11/2' X 5" .When pulled apart I had two pieces that size . 200 pieces for $1.64 is really cheap for my wheel cleaning .
Your right about replacing the plastic wheels .
Thanks for your comments . Have fun !

HO / General Wheel Cleaning

Recently I posted a question related to cleaning wheels on the DCC Peter Witt street car .I would like to share what I discovered is the best way for me to clean all wheels .
1- Connect two straight sections to EZ track rerailer connected to small Bachmann DC power pack .
2-Cut 1 1/2" X 4" piece of coffee filter paper .
3-Place paper tightly over the rerailer next to power cord . Tuck paper under rerailer and spray with isopropyl alcohol ( first aid stuff ).I use small spray bottle ( old lens cleaning bottle ).
4-Run unit back and forth over paper.
Paper towel can be used but the coffee filter paper works best with cars with low clearance . Hope this helps someone . Have Fun  ! Art

Thanks ! Makes sense to me .Your idea of using a smaller piece works .I tried something this morning and it works great .I set up a track just for cleaning wheels .Two 9" EZ tracks with a straight rerailer between them . Cut paper
1 1/2"  X 5"The paper was placed over the rerailer (next to the power cord) .Each end was tightly tucked under the rerailer .The cars ran over the alcohol wet paper with no problem .Using coffee filter paper is better than paper towel .I use a small spray bottle to wet the paper ( a used lens cleaner bottle ) Again ,thanks for sharing . Enjoy ! Art

I never  thought of this .Ebay has one listed for about $15.00 .Do you know if the metal brushes will harm the wheels with repeated use ? Someone on the internet said you can cut 3 pieces of solid wire ( #12 I think ) about 1/2" wider than the paper towel with some extra on the ends .He had the ends turned down and pushed in small pilot holes One outside each rail and one between the rails .The three wires hold the paper towel down .Again thanks for your input . Thank you D .I had been using  a piece about an inch and a half wide .I tried using a piece 3/8" wide and it worked . However,it is not easy to do because of the low hanging things in front of the front wheels .Again, THANKS ! Art

HO / Spectrum HO DCC Streetcar Wheel Cleaning

The only DCC I have are two HO  Peter Witt street cars .I have always cleaned locomotive and trolley car wheels by placing a small piece of paper towel over the track, wet with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol , and running the cars across the paper towel .Always making sure not to get alochol on the paint .I am having trouble doing this with the Peter Witt cars because they are very close to the rails .Any one have a better way of cleaning the wheels ? I also use the " Tidy Track Roto Wheel Cleaner " However ,seems to me the DCC units need to be kept extra clean, more so than the DC ones . Thanks for your input ! Art

Thanks for all the good ideas ! I only use the split loom stuff to keep the two wires  together going to two Bachmann controllers ,mostly the EZ Command Center since I need to pick it up to use it .Again,THANKS ! Art

Sorry I can not attach pictures .Send me your email address through personal message or direct and I will send several pictures showing the 1/4" loom and how I have used it . Art

Yes,I am sort of a neat freak .However ,each time I picked up my Bachmann DCC Control Center I always had two wires come along with it .I had them taped together until I discovered 1/4" split loom would not only look very neat but do an excellent job of holding them together .Loom comes in a number of sizes .1/4"fit two wires perfect . It is very inexpensive and comes in different lengths .It is  flexible plastic tubing with a split in it .All you do is open the split and push in the wires .Maybe this is well known to some of you .It was not to me .It should be sold at places that sell automotive wiring .Maybe even sound systems .I found mine on Ebay .Hope this helps someone .Feel free to email me for additional information . HO / High Railer Wheels

I would like to know if the highrailer wheels on the Bachmann pick up truck and bus are needed to run them ? Looks to me they are only there to represent the real thing .If they can be removed it would be easier to place them on the track .Thanks for anything you might share .Art

General Discussion / Re: inner loop

The rail joiner is nothing more than two wires .Each one has a clip that slides on the track rails where the EZ track section connect together .If you send me your email address I will  send you a photo of the two loops .Of course you can always solder the wires to each rail if you are good at that .I am not.
The Atlas connector might be hard to find due to the Atlas market right now .
I found mine on Ebay .They are cheap .Good luck ! Have fun !
