Large / Re: Need more sound, 50Ton shay TRACK POWER
September 01, 2009, 04:05:33 PM
Found the answer, gotta buy a DCC system to change the Volumn. NO "knob" or switch to turn it up or down.
Not sure if I went to someone with a DCC system & turned it up, it would still be up when I came back to track power.
Otherwise it is a nice unit, the quality is a "8" or so.
My 2 truck "B" Shay is a "5" .
Anyone wanting a 2 truck, $200. plus shipping. Have the original box plus a box to put it in. Consider trade, need cars, and at leat a 8' prefer 10' circle or more of track.

Large / Need more sound, 50Ton shay TRACK POWER
August 30, 2009, 05:37:07 PM
On my home track the sound is anemic. Went to the Houston G Gauger tracks yesterday. With other locomotives running it was impossible to hear.
Consensus has to be a way to turn it up. Have looked all over, can't find it. Nothing visible inside the Tanks? Nothing obvious outside the engine.
Literature states Volume is adjustable. My best guess, only with a DCC Decoder?
I received my engine new in the box, it had a set of Dwgs & a Spectrum Quick Start guide in which I find reference to a users guide. Does such exist?

Thanks
Bill

B-   Shays

I have both the 55T 3 truck, & 38T 2 Truck why both? I bid on them on E-bay about the same time & got both. The 38T will go back on E Bay.

In any case the 55 looks great on 10'dia. on 4'dia. it gets a little strange, only tried it once. The 38 will make it on 4'dia somewhat better.

I would not expose it to 4' on a regular basis.

Large / DCC on my 3 truck shay again from the newby
July 31, 2009, 05:41:35 PM
Jester I thank you for your earlier response. Bachmann does not have a "control unit". So that I can do it "easy".

I have this unit running in on track power after lubing it. I love the sound ads a new dimension.

Now I want to move forward, I am thinking a DCC control system is next someone give me a idea of what I need to buy to get reasonable control.

My other thought is to take it to Batt. power. But that is not going to leave much change from a BOAT [bring on another thousand}.  I have a 38ton SHay & a 2-4-0 LGB As well as Accucraft MIMI but that's another problem.

For the moment I will deal with my track cleaning problems if DCC is a couple of 100.  Plus I need to get a larger transformer. Almost answering my own question.

In any case anyone have a thought for me on the 3 Truck & DCC?

Large / HELP "DCC SOUND ON BOARD"
July 23, 2009, 05:31:17 PM
The UPS man brought my new "2006" vintage 3 truck SHAY it is a beauty.
I understand it will operate from track power & produce sound.  Have yet to try it, still need to lube it etc.. Plus it is not the only thing on the plate of things to do.
I "think" I need a EZ command "control center" #44902 for it to be great / Bacmann web sight?
I am lost as to what 44902 will do, DOES SOMETHING BETTER EXIST?

Thanks  Bill

Large / Newby buys 2 SHAYS on line.
July 19, 2009, 04:27:57 PM
Being no expert on E-Bay or Bachmann. I bid, I bought a 2 truck shay#81196. by accident. I wanted another one but it closed before my automatic got close to his Min.
My question I thought all 2 truck Shays were the same. Wrong newby, the latest ones are numbered 82194 -198.
My question, any thing any body can tell me about the early ones?

The other is a better story I hope, A brand new 55 ton 3 truck, West side lumber. Listed as C-10 brand new. I set a higher number than the opening bid. Which no one had bid on it. I guess I was the only sucker available.
Just kidding, never expected to get it for the opening price when the buy it now was about +$200.
Any thing interesting on these except Tsun-- sound is a little "light".?

Thanks for the feed back, am well equiped in geared Engine as soon as the UPS guy brings them.

Large / Help for a sorta NEWBY - CLIMAX
July 01, 2009, 06:34:14 PM
Recently visited, G-Smokey Mt. Nat. Park, in our wanderings, we found a CLIMAX w/logging cars & a steam powered logging crane back in the woods.
Actually they have a pretty nice paved path to it.
I fell in love with this little engine, [NPS brought it down from Michigan]
In any case took pix to my local purveyor of G gage.
He said, I have one of those from Bachmann I will cut you a deal on it.
My question as it is apparently out of production , any problems, or just the rest of the world did not like CLIMAX's.
I WILL TRY TO FIND MY WAY BACK TO  "Y-ALL" ANY BODY HAVE ANY THING TO SAY GOOD OR BAD ABOUT THE CLIMAX EXCEPT the springs in the trucks are shiny.
Big time good/bad        billbag @gmail.com    Thanks Bill
