Large / 10-Wheeler in Tow?
December 16, 2020, 10:58:08 AM
I use an LGB Stainz loco (I have 2 which I interchange, and a Chloe which can only pull the battery car and maybe a caboose) to pull about 8 cars around a 14 foot diameter curve in my front yard 12 hours a day.  I have a xmas 10-wheeler, which will completely - well, not do great - working 12 hours shifts outside.  However, I'd like to possibly have it in tow.  Has anyone done this?  Or would you?   ;D

Of course, I'd need to add a front coupler, remove the weight and gear box...

General Discussion / C'mon, Norfolk Southern!!
November 22, 2020, 09:54:41 PM
Today, I encountered a 3-switcher-pulled NS local.  The first was purchased from CSX, with a blue patch over the "CSX" letters, the second was unpainted leased, and the third was NS patch CSX scheme.  I know this is all normal, but c'mon Norfolk Southern!  You need me to come over there and paint??

General Discussion / Another laugh for you!!
October 06, 2020, 09:16:51 PM
I've been keeping up with that YouTube channel that posted the garden railroad video I mentioned here a while back... video quality has improved greatly and this stuff is funny...  Check it out, that kid is going somewhere!  This kid has interviewed Tony Cook, Lionel Strang, John Abatecola... wow.

Large / Guidance on a Battery
August 31, 2020, 10:00:30 PM
I am a diehard HO-scaler, but I'm building a 12' loop around a tree in my yard, battery power.  Can someone please point me towards a battery that will last a while on a small loco?  I'm putting all electronics in a trailing car.

HO / Bachmann Retooled 0-6-0
August 12, 2020, 01:53:15 PM
So, I think we all have that old Bachmann 6 wheeler sitting on a shelf somewhere.  I have a buddy who has a fleet of walthers heritage 6 wheelers that look great.  It's been a while since any QUALITY 6 wheeler has been on the market.  I'm pretty excited for it.  Thoughts?

So I'm a club guy...  We have a small modular layout that we take out twice a year but that's it.  The stuff that we run on it is always things that we are okay with getting grabbed or stolen.  But, a friend invited me to come with him to a modular club meet up one day after COVID ends.  What is appropriate to bring?  How many locos?  How many cars?

Thanks!  (Sorry if some people get annoyed because this is such an obvious question for the modular guys LOL  ;D)

General Discussion / Switching from Digitrax to NCE
July 30, 2020, 11:55:33 PM
Okay, so I understand that this forum is for Bachmann stuff, but this is related because I have some Bachmann rolling stock and some Plasticville buildings LOL...

I'm a club modeler.  The overwhelming majority of my efforts go towards various projects for my club.  But, I do maintain a 4x6 layout which I pretty much fully redo each year that keeps me busy.  For this layout, my setup is a Digitrax Zephyr Xtra, paired with an infrared receiver and single dial throttle.  I also use this system at train shows to set up a programming track for the club.  Well, my zephyr has gotten to the point where I have to reset it almost every week (though I do have to mention that it did live a pretty long life).  Since Digitrax doesn't really have any other smaller and cheaper DCC systems, along with some other personal contemplations, I've decided that I want to transition my 4x6 to NCE.  Two questions for the NCE guys:

- I run 2 engines back to back, with several others just sitting and making noise.  All sound.  Is the NCE Power Cab enough "power" for my usage?

- Are my Digitrax receiver and throttle compatible with the NCE system?

Thanks for all help!!

General Discussion / Good Ol' Garden Railroads
June 27, 2020, 01:36:10 PM
There's always those little G scale loops in the back of people's yards, but I came across this video (that coincidentally is from today) showing something much more.  This is a very good sized garden line through a wooded backyard, not a concrete pad.  It's pretty cool, take a look.

With the retirement of the MTH CEO, he has set plans to dismantle the company, but says that he is deciding how to handle the tools and molds that the company possesses. It would be amazing if Bachmann acquired some of these.  Anyone else have any thoughts?

Every year the Wilm, DE Greenberg show gets a large turnout, and we have names like yankeedabbler and micro mark, but there's never been any model brands that have shown.  @BachMan have you ever considered coming down to the Chase Center?

Thomas & Friends / Taking Apart a Model
May 08, 2020, 10:10:46 PM
Apologies if this question has already been asked and answered before, but may I please ask for some assistance in disassembling my Thomas and Friends model?  I've gotten to the point where I removed the face plate, can separate the chassis from the body, and can wiggle the cab roof.  I don't want to remove the wrong screw and have it explode into a million pieces, so does anyone know what the next right step is?

...I'm experimenting fitting a DCC decoder into T&F locos.  Trying James and Thomas first.  At a train show, one of the members from my club brought a Hornby Thomas with DCC to our modular layout, but with no couplers LOL.  On the spot, we retrofitted a coupler off a Bachmann Thomas, and let's just say it didn't go too well.  So, I decided to take the more planned out route, and use Bachmann.

General Discussion / Tourist Road Names
May 08, 2020, 09:43:54 PM
Hello!  I understand that there have been lots of posts asking about short line road name products, and I hate to admit it but I guess this is another one of them.  Are there any plans to make any sort of motive power or rolling stock for short/tourist lines near the local Pennsylvania area in any scale (HO specifically...), like Strasburg, Reading Blue Mountain, Wilmington & Western, etc..... as in putting a new paint job on existing tooling?  Like a Strasburg decapod or 2-8-0, or a W&W 4-4-0 or 0-6-0, or slapping a new paint job onto those 1800's era passenger cars.  I get these are very specific localized road names, but I'm just throwing it out there.  Roundhouse/Athearn made some HO Strasburg cars, but they are beyond rare and crazy expensive when you do find them.

On this topic... does anyone know of good retail decal sheets for Pennsylvania-area tourist lines?
