N / DCC Ready Plug
April 23, 2007, 03:38:16 AM
I am new to model trains, let alone something as complicated as DCC..
So I opened up one of my DCC Ready Train D8-40C, found the location of the Main PCB.  Then I see that the pins are listed in this order:
(7)654218 from left to right.' (light motor power light motor power)

It seems to me that all the decoders using a NEM651 plug, the plug order is 158462 in Bachmann's instruction. (motor motor power power light light).

I wonder if this is a design oversight, or is it just me miscounting because I am new to the hobby.

Should I wire the decoder using soldering, or should I make a plug and wire the plug according to the PCB layout?

Finally, what should I do with #7 (light common, blue)?  Should I just leave it the way it is..unplugged?

Thanx

General Discussion / Booster setup question
April 22, 2007, 11:39:41 PM
I am planning to purchase a booster (non Bachmann...cannot afford to buy the Bachmann booster).

How should I hook it up to a train system?

I currently have both DCC command cap and the regular Bachmann cap.  Should I hook the booster between the electric outlet and the cap (ie, replacing the normal power adaptor), attach the booster between the track and the cap, or setup the booster between the electric outlet and the track itself (ie, the track will have two electrical input, one from the cap, the other from the booster).

Thanx in advance..

Hi I am new to this hobby.

I have purchased a couple of Spectrum DCC ready diesel engines, planning on installing decoders in them.  I also purchased a couple of Bachmann decoders.
I have searched the web, yet I still cannot find anything giving examples on how to install a decoder inside a Spectrum DCC ready diesel engine.

In fact, I do not even know how to open the engine up...can anyone point out how I might proceed (opening up the engine, and how to install decoders?)

Many thanx
