Jim, I appreciate the input and having said all of that.....

I thoroughly check through these engines and found that the wires to the motors were running dangerously close to the frame so I moved them a tad and put some electrical tape in there to really isolate it. I also really inspected the solder joints and found some suspect ones so i hit them with an iron. One of the engines perked back up the other is still running slow.

So I guess the next question would be who makes a reliable decoder, and since I'm going to go through the headache of installing one or two, I might as well get ones with sound.

All suggestions welcomed !!!!

This all Bachmann equipment straight out of the box. I Have 4 GP 40's not that makes a difference. What is interesting is that all have different circuit boards:

H601X-PCB01 Rev C     04/06/04
H601X-PCB01B             04/05/06

And the 2 I'm not having problems with have the same circuit boards:

RoHS H601X#PCB01 Rev B     06/11/11

there's also slight differences in the frames in the later.

About a month ago I started to get back into model trains. I purchased the dcc set with the ez command control and 2 dcc engines. Everything ran fine after the usual fine tuning. I then purchased the Dynamis controller. Now one of the engines runs at about half speed and gets very hot.

With the ez command in the system the track voltage ran between 18-19 volts AC and with the Dynamis in the sytem it's 14-15 volts AC. What is the correct operating voltage for these dcc units?

TIA.

Another thing worth mentioning I purchased this from Ohio Valley trains

They are going out of business and selling off their stock really cheap I purchased the Dynamis for $135

I was referring to the ad that states "Full CV programming" with the 36505 unit. From what I've read the 36508 which is the Pro unit will.

This forum thread pretty much explains the Dynamis pretty well >>

HO / E-Z Command Dynamis DCC Controller
May 30, 2008, 03:02:45 PM
Hi, I've seen very little mention on this device and even less information on it.
According to the sales pitch this is what it should be able to do:

E-Z Command Dynamis DCC Controller

Features

    * Advanced wireless infrared operation
    * 2.5 amp power supply
    * 128 speed steps
    * Full CV programming
    * Full NMRA conformance
    * 9,999 locomotive addresses
    * Turnout and accessory control
    * Expandable modular design
    * Easy-to-use backlit LCD screen
    * Allows 40 consists of up to 5 locomotives each
    * Control of up to 40 locomotives at any one time (up to 21 functions per       locomotive)
    * Suitable for all layouts from train sets to sophisticated railway systems
    * Joystick control for speed and on screen selection

     I already own a Easy command controller and several dcc engines and I'd like to go to the next step of being able to control the cv's of each dcc decoder. From what I've read in other forums the Dynamis doesn't have the cv prgramming ability it claims to have. I've been looking for days for a pdf file of the manual that comes with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,SvFiat
