Thans ever so much to all for all the help and links furnished.   Looking forward to trying it.

Hope everyone has a great Holiday Season and Happy Model Rairoading to All.

Thanks for the info.........yes am aware cann't run both DC and DCC at the same time but planned on using the dead track as suggested to move engines back and forth from and switching the current from DC to DCC or the reverse.

Intersting about running a DC engine on station 10 though.......are you saying I can run both a DC and DCC engine at the same time this way as long as my DCC is on say station 1 and the DC engine on 10.

Using this method would I be able to control the speed and direction of the DC Engine even though it has no DCC electronics in it.........unerstood that the power to the track via DCC was a constant and could not be increased or decreased to speed up or slow down a engine.   The DC engines are older ones that I bought in the late 1960s and run very well for their age.

HO / Combining DCC and DC Trains on the same run

Howdy I hope this question/concept doesn't sound dumb but it is something I was thinking about and if it is doable.

I currently have a large DCC Track Run that covers the majority of a 10 ft x 12 ft bench and goes upward to a upper level a bit smaller in size.

I also have on this bench a smaller run of train that I run my regular old timey DC or I guess analog is the same thing type trains.

My large DCC run is a Bachman set up with Flex Track and 2 DCC Controlled switches at this time.

My question is what if I wanted to be able to connect the DC and dcc lines together.   Where I would want to run my old timey engines on the DCC track.   I Know the engines won't work with the Bachmann DCC Controler and I must use the regular transformers for theolder engines to control speed and direction.........also that I cannot run my DCC engines on the regular DC track which I don't plan on trying anyway.

Would it be possible to wire both the DCC Controller as well as the regular Transformer both to the DCC Run.    Using switches to turn the power off and on as desired for each control unit.   Could I have a section of track that connect both the DCC Track run and the DC run but would be insulated from each section.    I would run the DC engine onto this section using the DC Transformer and when it was there turn off the DCC unit to the DCC section and turn on the DC switch from the DC Transformer to this DCC track run.   Then i would continue to run the DC older engine on to the DCC TRack run and when finished doing that reverse the situation to get it back over to the regular DC Track section.

I hope I have made this clear and you get my drift as to what I would like to try if possible.........has anyone else combined running of both DC and DCC engines on the same line.    I know the DCC switches will not work when the DCC unit is off and am using the DC power from the old transformer to power the engines on the run.     In this case I may remove the DCC switches and use regular Bachmann switches as they will work with either DCC or DC engines to my understanding........the difference being I will have to use a switch control by hand rather than the DCC style of switching.

Forgot to mention in my last post that I did finally get a response from Bachmann sales regarding track size.   The person responding had to check with their engineering department I think she said to find out.   Understand sales people have to put up with a lot of stuff and will be more kinder toward them............but if they are insales, wouldn't you think they would at least know the code of the track they are selling........oh well.

Also this thing on radius and such is still new to me and I understand that a no. 6 turnout or crossover would be better to use that a no. 5 as far as making it easier for the train to take the curves........is this true.

Thanks Bob and Joe on clarifying the tab issue.........am using vinyl bed  for my roadbed on top of a 2 in foam board base.   May cut off the tab from the straight piece used to connect to the Atlas track and leave the tabs on the remaining EZ Track.   Then again, could cut out a piece of the road bed as suggested to accomodate the tab.   This will be a permanent installation so cutting the tab will probably be the way I go.........but it is nice to know alternatives that work.

Well getting time to finish up the Turkey here and get ready to chow down before long.

Hope everyone else has a good Day.........weather here in St. Louis is Sunny and mild.

THanks For the info Bob and the Bach-mann.   I will be using the crossovers on my new DCC line as I understand they don't work well with DC.   My DC run will be entirely separate from my DCC line.

Not having the EZ Track in my possession at this time...........still have to order them..........may I be so green as to ask how do you connect the EZ Track to Atlas 100 without removing the tabs.    I don't mind removing them as I am planning on buying a regular straight piece of EZ Track to connect to the crossovers and then remove the tab from the straight piece rather than modify the crossover itself.

Again. thanks for all the help...........I wish the sales folks from Bachmann would be more responsive.

HO / EZ Track Cross overs No. 6 and general questions
November 25, 2008, 06:05:26 PM
Hi can anyone help me or perhaps Mr. Bachmann.   Hopefully he is more responsive to questions than the rest of the Bachmann folks are as I have sent 4 messages to the sales area regarding these questions over the last 4 weeks and the only response I received back was a automated one from someone who was on leave and would get back with me........which no one has yet.

My question is about EZ Track  Is it code 100 or 83........I think I saw here somewhere someone mentioned all EZ Track HO is code 100.  Also Am interested in the DCC Cross ovrs No. 6 which I understand will fit other track like atlas as long as the other track is elevated and you have to removed the tab on the EZ Track........is this so.   I have several DCC Bachman Engines and the Control Center and want to incorporate the cross overs in my bench............currently my track is all 100 Atlas.

Would appreciate any assistance anyone out there can offer in these issues.

Thanks
