Title: GP40 shell removal
Post by: thomas611 on October 19, 2008, 12:22:02 AM
How do I remove the body shell on a GP40. Have tried spreading the shell at the center (tanks). Looks like I would have to spread the shell to the breaking point but both ends seam to still be fastened. Thanks, Thomas611 (Bet you can't guess which RR I am a fan of.)

Carefully pry off the fuel tank, underneath are two screws that hold the shell on. As you remove the shell, pull the ends a bit to clear the couplers.

You may have to remove the couplers and pockets by removing the screws holding them in place.

On the Bachmann GP40 you do not have to remove the couplers. Simply pry up the fuel tank and remove the two screws beneath. The shell will come off easily.

On one of my GP40s the casting wouldn't quite clear the coupler box, I just pulled the end very slightly to clear.  I filed off the casting a bit before replacing the shell.  On the others the shell came off easily as you mentioned.
