So I got an inexpensive Radio Shack digital multimeter.  How is it used to check the continuity of EZ Track?

Thank you both for the replies and especially to KCS 1 for taking the time to post your pictures.  KCS 1 if you first piles the ballast in the center and let it pour over, and there is nothing sticky on the slopes, doesn't it mostly roll off?  Those slopes are pretty steep.

HO / Ballasting EZ Track
August 24, 2008, 12:20:32 PM
I know this has been discussed before--but it's a real bear.  I am trying the following--brush Aileen's Tacky Glue on the slopes and around each of the outside ties.  Lay ballast down the center.  Brush ballast to level in the center.  Hope that the overflow falls where I want it on the slopes and between the outside ties.  Pour more on the slopes.  Tap it around.  Spray with "wet" water.  Dribble WS Scenic Cement down the center with an eyedropper.  Dribble scenic cement on the slopes.  Waste tons of ballast per track with no real way to cleanly recover it.

The biggest problem is the slopes.  Unlike ballasting snap track on a mostly flat bed if you try to sprinkle any decent amount on there is mostly falls off.  Anyway better?  I wishing I had just used snap track with WS foam track bed.

Thank you both, and especially Jim for his detailed post, for the information.

Jim, you are exactly correct in what I'm trying to do.  And I know the info is in your post.  Now I'm trying to be clear on it.  When you say, "Cut two cords in half and use only the ends with the flat plugs", what do you mean?  Are you saying that I should take two red power cords (as Bachmann calls them) and cut off the mini plug end?  Or why are you saying, "in half"?

In the end is this what I wind up with: The standard red plug power cord goes to the #1 terminal/rerailer (TR#1).  Then there is another red power cord plug into the other side of TR#1.  The other end of the cord is bare.  It then goes under the layout with both of its wires are wired to and end of lamp cord...no, now I think I'm getting lost.

Thank you for any help you can give me.  If there is any way anybody can draw and post a diagram it would help.

I really appreciate the time you are giving me.

Update--I just reread your instructions and I think I have it.  To clarify.  All the TRs will have a plug in both sides except TR#4.  Each TR#1 is connect to TR#2, TR2 to #3, and #3 to #4.  There is no master buss wire (whatever that is) just a length of lamp cord so that each TR can reach the other.  Also note that the DCC Commander came with one power cord with a plug and one with just wires.  So that I should only need 5 more to do a total of four TRs.

Yes?

Thanks again.

PS, what would be the best number of TRs for a 4x8 plan.  I am working on Woodland Scenics' Grand Valley layout.

HO / Using feeders with Bachmann Digital Commander

Can someone help me understand how to do this?  I have a 4x8 layout.  I am using EZ Track and the Bachmann DCC Digital Commander.  It has an AC adapter that goes into the controller. The power goes to the track from a miniplug into the controller to a special plug that goes into the EZ track rerailer/terminal.  What is the procedure to add  two or three feeders into the track?

I am a novice, please be specific.

HO / Best way to glue/attach EZ Track to layout
August 16, 2008, 06:08:45 PM
I  am working on a Woodland Scenics layout.  I need to attach EZ Track to the plaster covered styrofoam risers.  I am not having much luck.  I'm trying Liquid Nails for projects.  The problem is that there ain't much surface underneath the EZ Tracks to glue.  I can't see filling up the entire cavity with glue.  Any suggestions?

Thank you for your responses.  I switched the track around and it worked.  I will have to get the tester that Joe mentions and write back for information on its use.

I have two DCC diesels that came with a Bachmann set.  It happens with both of them.

I guess I will have to check with a voltmeter-which I don't have.  So this is not  a case of the reverse loop problem?  Though this isn't a loop.

HO / Reversing problem?
August 09, 2008, 06:31:12 PM
I am working on Woodland Scenics' Grand Valley Pass.  I just finished installing all the risers and inclines and I put the track on it to test drive it.  Every thing's fine except at the 90 degree crossing.  When the engine approaches the 90 (going from left to right into the area inside the inner right loop) the engine stops.  If I push it pass the crossing it works fine.  Also have the same problem when attempting to leave in the straight track inside the loop.

I am using EZ Track NS and DCC.

The plan is on the last page of the following link:

HO / Re: Powering EZ-Track Turnouts
April 01, 2008, 06:00:54 PM
The remote turnouts will not work with the EZ Command.  They used the green wired switches that you would hide under the layout and bring to the front.  There are very expensive DCC turnouts that you can control with your Command.

To power the remote turnouts you need an AC output like you get on regular DC powered controllers.  They usually have one AC output for this purpose.  You can pick up one very cheaply.

HO / Bachmann builds a layout

I really like the job that Mr Bachmann did on this series.  However, there was also, somewhere, an insanely detailed building of this or Grand Valley in someone elses website page.  Does anyone know where this is?  I can't find it.

HGCHO,
Thanks for the info...  By the way, what does IMHO mean?

Yes, I am new to these expressions :-[
In my humble opinion it means "in my humble opinion."

Talked to Bachmann.  They are sending it and a new coupler.  Had out my credit card, but he said no charge.  Way to go Bachmann!  ;)
