Title: Decoder for Bachmann Shay
Post by: Hwolf on August 27, 2007, 02:36:40 PM
What is the best decoder to use in my new 50 Ton 3 Truck Shay? Does not have to be a Bachmann part but must be resonably priced and fit in the small tender.

I use Bachmann decoder #44915 in all of my Shays. It's simple and cheap... and it fits in the tender.

The new Bachmann 55 Ton Three-Truck Shay is 1:20.3 large scale.
The Bachmann 44915 decoder is a one-amp not robust enough to be used in large scale.

See if a Lenz Gold Maxi decoder fits in your budget.

I suggest you wait about six months as new DCC decoders are just being introduced to be used in large scale. You may have more choices then.
