Title: pancake motor
Post by: dlw33 on December 22, 2018, 01:32:58 PM
Are there any replacement for the old flat motors that Bachmman use to use? I have heard them called pancake motors, most of the time nothing good has been said about them. :-\

Bachmann now installs can type motor and has for many years.

What brand, scale and model locomotive do you have? If Bachmann with pancake motor,  best to purchase a current production locomotive unless you have the needed  skills, tools, supplies and just like to tinker.

I have an old "Texas Chugger" and the motor let the smoke out so I was just wondering if someone out there knows if any of the old motors are available. I have been in the hobby for over 50 years and have repaired many locos. I always hard wire many of my old locos with DCC.

If you really want an old motor eBay, Craig's List, and train shows are about your only shot.

There are a couple of web pages and videos floating around on modifying the chassis to take a can motor. Or you could go this route:
