Depending on the model you may not have to remove the smoke unit there is an on/off switch in the cab.

He had an article in Model Railroader a few years back showcasing some of his work (and work ethic).

I know I was thinking of bringing my copy to one of his concerts and waving it to try and get it autographed.

MTH locomotives have this feature.  Seems like random talk sometimes but as long as I can shut it off when I want I would be okay with ot,

N / New Layout in 2 x 4 space.
October 23, 2019, 07:43:27 AM
I want to build a small N layout to put on a small folding table and move outside during the warmer months. I am looking for track plans to fit that space or slightly larger. I think it will be an older era possibly all steam to accommodate shorter trains with a continuous run if possible. Any idea where I might find track plans?

Jonathan I agree with your tips about the soldering iron.  I learned the hard way that a cheap 25 watt iron is not sufficient for trackwork.  I use a Weller  45 watt as well.

I usually expect to see a presentation online from York like Lionel and MTH but so far nothing

HO / Re: New layouy what code track?
July 21, 2019, 10:55:23 PM
Code 83 track is considered to be more prototypical looking that code 100 for mainline use.  Lower profile track like would be used in spurs sidings etc where slower speed are the norm and track not as well maintained.

Air Dry clay works well.  I used it to make grade crossings and cement floors.

It is possible that the date could matter as newer bachmann turnouts are machined to tighter tolerance then older ones anf in my experience work better.

I have 2 cousins a father and son who both collect trains so l left instructions for them to take what they want and dispose of the rest as they see fit.
