General Discussion / The new Dynamis system
January 11, 2008, 04:35:40 PM
Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to actually use the new Dynamis system that is coming out. How does it compare to the other systems that are out there.

Thank you for all of the links you guys. I must have been pretty tired because I could not understand them at first. I was really frustrated. But I got it now. Thank you.

Thank you very much. I don't know why, but I was there last night and I could not make heads or tails out of it. I may have just been tired. Thanks for the link.

HO / Standards Question
January 08, 2008, 02:05:32 AM
If you have a track of 30" radius (outside) on a curve, what is the separation between center lines of the outside and inside track?
I can't get this info anywhere. My guess is about 2.25 " what do you guys think?

I went there and I do not see anything relating to how far apart the centerline of tracks on a curve should be.

Well this board helped on my last problem. I am dexigning a model RR. I am trying to find the proper/standard distance between track centers on a curve. You would think that would be easy to find, but I can't find it.

Help

Actually The AC-9 seems to look pretty much like the Picture I saw. What a beast of a machine it was. The sad part of this whole adventure is that it is only done in brass from what I have been able to gather ($3000). So I guess it goes on my dream list.

Thanks for the help.

Are there some historical books you guys could guide me to that have pictures of some of the "odd" wheel set configurations. I just saw a 4-4-6-2 during my search for the affore mentioned engine. Really really neat stuff.

I was at a train show in LA, and I saw a picture of an engine that I have not seen before. It looked like a GS-4 (war baby), but it was much longer. I think it had a 4-6-6-4 or a 4-8-8-4 wheel configuration. It was not a Big Boy, and it was not a Challenger. If anyone knows what it was I would really like some information on it.

Chesticus,
I second Jim's suggestion. I had an instance where pony truck would foul a straight section of a switch on a downgrade. Switch and truck checked out as in gauge. This was the only place on the layout where it would foul itself. There are enough other opportunities on my layout where it could justifiably have also fouled itself but didn't. After fiddling and fiddling I decided to add a bit of weight to the truck and bingo problem solved.
It's a simple fix and if everything else on the loco is OK, why send it off and wait for its return? For very little effort you could probably be back in business.

  Jon

I am going to wait until this weekend to have a better look at this thing. But i will give it a go before I send it in.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

One other thing - Make sure the trip pin or glad hand (whatever you want to call it) on the coupler isn't dragging on the rails or ties and derailing the whole locomotive. I had that problem and it took me forever to figure it out.  Mostly they get caught in the E-Z track turnouts. Just a suggestion.

New guy

That was the very first thing I did Thanks for the sugestion though.
Iam not using e-z track. The switches have not been the problem. That has been the most frustrating part of it.

It seems to have vertical play. You said you added weight to the truck. Is this something I should try?

HO / derailment of my N & W 4-8-4 Spectrum
November 18, 2007, 11:25:11 PM
My Wife bought me the Rail Fan version of the N & W 4-8-4 Spectrum. It has DCC and Sound, but I have had some problems running it. The Front guide wheels seem to be coming off of the track. It is not the radius of the track as it seems to happen in moderate turns even in the easements going into the turn. Is there something I should do? Or should I pack it up and send the engine in?

I have checked the gauge with my toll. I am using flex track, and I am not having any problems with my other engines. Any suggestions would be great please.

Ha Ha Ha :D Remove the dummy plug and I am off to the races. As "Ed" used to say "you are correct Sir." Thank you so much. I was really a little frustrated. Again, thank you so much.

HO / Help...2-8-0 baldwin dcc decoder installation
November 04, 2007, 01:50:26 AM
I have an older Bachmann spectrum 2-8-0 Balwin. It is not dcc ready, and it does not have the pins, so it must be hard wired in. I need very detailed instructions on how to do this. The decoder I have is a bachmann decoder. Can anyone give me a source to go to to figure out how to put this thing in?

Thanks

Chesticus ;D
