Title: Coupler types
Post by: dipeedo on January 20, 2010, 01:45:52 PM
I need to replace some couplers on older cars, but I see there are nine items listed in the Bachmann catalog. What are their diffferences and how do  I determine which I need??

(Assumming you are talking about HO scale) If they are TYCO, Life-Like, or another company with talgo trucks then Bachmann couplers will not be compatible, and you will need a Kadee converter. If they are Athearn, P2K, P1K, Atlas, Bowser, Accurail, Roundhouse/MDC, and others similar in terms of coupler attachment then for the most part a medium shank coupler will work, but to be sure buy a Kadee, Micro-Mark, or NMRA gauge to check your coupler heights to make your decision.
